LightLab Artist: Lucy Carter

Lucy is a light artist and a critically acclaimed, award winning lighting designer. She has had a long and successful career in live performance and events, working with and for many of the best dance, ballet, opera and theatre companies in the world, such as The National Theatre, The Royal Ballet and The MET Opera, New York and La Scala , Milan.

Her lighting installations and light art works embody a sense of theatricality and unfolding kinetic narratives.  She was resident artist in 2014 for SchlossMediale Castle, Werdenberg, Switzerland in an art and music festival,, and has received other commissions from Sadlers Wells, London in the No Body festival 2015 and LIT Macclesfield 2020.

Lucy’s idea of a Friendship Bench that only lights up when two people sit on it, is seeking further funding and sponsorship for a prototype.  It is designed to be a temporary installation for festivals, but wouldn’t be out of place in a town centre on a more permanent basis too.

“I am so delighted to be part of Lumen LightLab 2020 and to have the opportunity to develop my practice into new avenues and to use my theatrical experiences to make lights speak in other ways to audiences. “
